Occupational Therapy at North Kansas City Hospital helps patients reach goals and work toward achieving their highest level of functioning after an injury, illness or other disability.

Therapists provide individualized care, addressing the specific needs of each person. Treatment may include upper extremity muscle and sensory reeducation, endurance training, retraining in activities of daily living (bathing, dressing and other self-care), instruction in use of adaptive equipment and education to prevent future injuries.

Our Certified Hand Therapists have specialized training and provide care for patients who may have been affected by an accident or trauma which left the patient with wounds, scars, burns, injured tendons or nerves, fractures or amputation of a portion of the hand/arm. They also treat patients with arthritis or repetitive motion disorders such as tennis elbow or carpal tunnel syndrome. We focus treatment on returning patients to their most functional status, which for some people includes returning to work.

Our specialized Lymphedema Therapists treat patients with increased swelling in an arm or leg. Lymphedema may occur in someone who has had lymph nodes damaged or removed, including patients who have had cancer treatment.

The Occupational Therapy Department is a spacious, modern facility equipped with an exercise gym, mobility area, warm water therapy pool and training kitchen/bathroom. Our facility offers a positive environment designed to encourage patients to strive toward their goals of increased independence and function.
