Our Palliative Care Team consists of nurses, a physician, chaplain, social worker and other staff as needed, such as dietitians and physical/occupational therapists. We work to add quality - not length - to patients' lives. We honor patients' life experiences, values and beliefs, helping them recognize they have choices in their care. We try to bring them comfort, compassionate care, less fear and pain, and more openness, privacy and dignity. Here are some aspects of our program.
  • Gift of Remembrance Boxes
We offer families a box which they can fill with special remembrances of their loved one, such as a video or cassette tape to record messages from the patient and other personal items.
  • For the loved ones
Care is specific for each patient and family as we try to meet physical, emotional and spiritual needs. We also encourage and help loved ones be included in the patient's care. During the patient's Hospital stay, we prepare loved ones for the physical and emotional changes that occur at the end of life. Our counseling specialists are available to help families deal with unresolved issues so they can have a peaceful goodbye.
  • Grief Support Group

Adults who have experienced a loss are welcome to attend our Grief Support Group. The group meets in the evening on the first floor of the Health Services Pavilion. Registration is required, but there is no charge to attend. Call The Bereavement Support Group at 816-691-5119 for dates and more details.

Sometimes medical solutions simply aren't enough to conquer cancer, heart disease or other serious illnesses. When that occurs, North Kansas City Hospital wants to provide the support patients - and families - need to help them live their remaining days in comfort and dignity.
