When it’s you or a loved one who has had a serious injury, a life-threatening illness or open-heart surgery, you can have peace of mind that you’re in the best hands.

Three intensive care units meet the needs of North Kansas City Hospital patients. The physicians and staff in the intensive care units work with patients facing serious injuries or life-threatening conditions to achieve their maximum potential. Family members also are vital to the recovery process.

The second floor Intensive Care Unit (ICU) treats complex multisystem trauma cases as it receives patients from the Hospital's Level II trauma center. In addition to trauma cases, the unit specializes in conditions requiring mechanical ventilation (ventilator that breathes for the patient) and care of critically-ill patients following surgery.

Located on the 9th floor, the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) specializes in caring for patients with cardiac illnesses. Staff monitor and treat patients with heart failure, heart attacks and conditions requiring procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab.

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) on the fourth floor coordinates care of patients recovering from open-heart surgery and thoracic surgeries.

Visiting hours are limited in the intensive care areas. No flowers or phone calls are allowed.
