Sometimes treating a heart problem requires more extensive treatment than the Cath Lab can provide. Surgery can prove a successful option for many patients. Highly skilled cardiothoracic surgeons perform conventional heart surgery and, when indicated, more advanced surgery, such as operating on a beating heart without the heart-lung machine. These highly specialized surgical teams offer other surgical options including coronary valve surgery (to replace or repair damaged heart valves) and pacemaker insertion.
