Why do I get a statement when I have two insurance plans? You will get an initial statement with services/charges summarized. The message text will read “This is not a bill.” After your primary insurance pays, you will get a second bill stating that your secondary insurance has been billed. This is primarily for your information regarding the status of your account.
Can I get an itemized bill each time I am in the hospital? If you would like an itemized bill please contact our Customer Service department and one will be sent to you. The Hospital does not routinely send itemized bills to patients.
I have Medicaid. Why do I get a bill? You will get an initial statement with services/charges summarized. The message text will read “This is not a bill.” After your primary insurance pays, you will get a second bill stating that your secondary insurance had been billed. This is primarily for your information regarding the status of your account.
Why don’t the statement envelopes look the same each month? Our statement company varies the color of statement envelopes each month in the hope that you do not mistake them for “junk” mail.
How can I apply for financial assistance? Call the Resources Office and speak with one of our counselors at 816-691-2598.
Why do I get a bill from North Kansas City Hospital and physicians offices? The Hospital charges are for services rendered at our facility; the physician’s service will be billed by physician’s office.
How do I know if hospital services will be covered by my insurance company? Remember that your insurance company, not your physician or hospital of choice, makes decisions about what will be paid and/or not paid. Most of the services your doctor recommends will be covered by your plan, but some may not. You may choose to still obtain the treatment your physician recommended, but you will most likely have to pay for the services not covered. Your health insurance policy is an agreement between you and your insurance company. North Kansas City Hospital recommends that you take time to read your insurance policy and become familiar with those services that are considered “covered” vs. “non-covered”.
Why didn’t my insurance company pay for all services provided by the Hospital? Most services require some form of authorization by your physician and/or insurance company before they can be provided. If you have questions about your coverage, call your insurance company. Before you receive treatment of any kind, you should know what your insurance company will pay for.
