Road District to Build New Road to Hospital
The North Kansas City Road District is developing a new street to connect Vernon Road to Clay Edwards Drive. This will eliminate heavy traffic through the small neighborhood on the west side of the Hospital. North Kansas City Hospital has been working with Road District officials and civil engineers to ensure the new road maintains easy and convenient access to the Hospital.
Plans include improving conditions on Vernon Road by replacing the bridge over the levee and constructing a new street to connect Vernon Road to Clay Edwards Drive. The project is well underway and will progress in several phases. Phase 1 (new bridge and widening of Vernon street) is nearly complete.
Work on the new road, extension of Clay Edwards Drive, started on August 1. This second phase of the project will continue through November.
Phase 3 and 4 will begin later this year. These phases tie the new street to Clay Edwards Drive near the south entrance of the hospital campus and will convert 26th Avenue into a cul-de-sac — eliminating the heavy traffic that flows through the neighborhood west of the hospital.
All patient and visitors to the hospital should follow Armour Road to Walker Road and enter the main entrance on the east side of campus.
