In a statement released by Michael Montgomery, MD,

North Kansas City Hospital Chairman of the Board of Trustees, February 28, 2013:Michael Montgomery, MD

“We thank Sen. Silvey and Rep. Swearingen for their legislative support in filing legislation and taking a stand that will protect the citizens of North Kansas City and the Northland from losing the kind of healthcare they are used to and would lose if the hospital is sold to a for-profit hospital. The city’s behavior as evidenced by their recent communication is exactly what has prompted us to pursue relief through the court system and with legislators. We do not believe the city has the authority to sell the Hospital under the state statute. The city has announced they will be appointing several new members to the Board of Trustees and that’s the extent of any official notice we’ve been given. We learned of the other points in the city’s communication this morning in the media.

The Board of Trustees and Hospital management have succeeded at managing North Kansas City Hospital for the last 55 years and intend to do so for years to come by being a community Hospital serving the residents of North Kansas City and the Northland. In the midst of all this, all of us at North Kansas City Hospital have never forgotten what our name signifies. We are, and will always be, North Kansas City Hospital.”
