Preceptors

Matt Baker, PharmD, BCPS

Matt BakerMatt Baker is the Pharmacy Department's Clinical Supervisor and the Pharmacy Residency Program Director who oversees the Research rotation at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Baker earned a doctorate of pharmacy degree from St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

His professional interests include evidence-based medicine, practice-based research and multidisciplinary process improvement. He serves on the Medication Management and Pharmacy & Therapeutics committees and on the Glycemic Control Task Force.

When he’s not at the hospital, he enjoys spending time with family and outdoor activities.

Denny Fugate, PharmD

Denny FugateDenny Fugate is the Director of Pharmacy Services at North Kansas City Hospital. He oversees orientation and training, and health system administration.

Dr. Fugate completed the Health System Management program at Cardinal Health and earned his doctorate degree in pharmacy from the University of Kentucky.

His professional interests are operational innovation, clinical pharmacy service integration, staff development, supply chain and benchmarking. He serves on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Patient Safety, Medication Management, Standards of Practice and Institutional Review committees.

His personal interests include watching the Louisville Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals.

Edwin L. Crawford, PharmD

Ed CrawfordEd Crawford is the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist on the Progressive Care Unit at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Crawford earned a bachelor of pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a doctorate of pharmacy degree from The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. He is on the Cardiovascular Subcommittee and the Cardiothoracic Surgery Conference Committee.

Dr. Crawford’s professional interests include cardiology, infectious disease/antibiotic management and cardiothoracic surgery. His personal interests are fly fishing, pheasant hunting and retriever training.

Hieu Mark Trung Tran, PharmD, BCPS

Hieu TranHieu Tran is the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Obstetrics Department, and Renal and Dialysis at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Tran earned his doctor of pharmacy degree from The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. He is a member of the Maternal Child Care Subcommittee, NICU Interdisciplinary Group and Renal Standards Committee

His professional interests include Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). In his free time, he enjoys traveling internationally and saving the rain forest.

Michael Kallenberger, PharmD, BCPS

Michael KallenbergerMike Kallenberger is the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist for Adult Internal Medicine at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Kallenberger earned his doctorate degree in pharmacy from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and graduated from Truman Medical Center’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program.

His professional interests include cardiology and infectious disease. In his personal time, he enjoys listening to music, watching professional baseball and running/working out.

Monika Totoraitis PharmD, BCOP

Monika TotoraitisMonika Totoraitis is the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist for infectious disease/antimicrobial stewardship at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Totoraitis earned her doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and graduated from the Pharmacy Residency program at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. She is on the hospital’s Infection Control Committee and Antimicrobial Stewardship Subcommittee.

Professionally, she is one of many antimicrobial stewardship pharmacists on a mission to save antibiotics. When she’s not saving antibiotics, she enjoys traveling and cooking.

Janna Kittle, PharmD, BCPS

Janna KittleJanna Kittle is a Clinical Pharmacist in Acute Rehabilitation Care at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Kittle earned her doctorate of pharmacy degree from Creighton University School of Pharmacy. She completed her residency at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center. She serves on the Acute Rehab Unit’s Performance Improvement Team.

Her professional interests include transitions of care, infectious disease and community education.

In her spare time, Janna loves cooking, reading and spending time with her husband and son. Janna is the program coordinator with Camp Quality Greater Kansas City, serving kids with cancer and their families.

Megan Musselman, PharmD, MS, BCPS, BCCCP

Megan MusselmanMegan Musselman is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Neuro/Trauma ICU at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Musselman earned in doctorate degree in pharmacy from Creighton University School of Pharmacy. She completed the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the PGY-2 Emergency Medicine Specialty Residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital. She also earned a master’s degree in Clinical Toxicology from the University of Florida.

Megan’s professional interests include toxicology and neurocritical care. At North Kansas City Hospital, she serves on the ICU Subcommittee, ED Subcommittee, Medication Management Team, Sepsis Committee and Critical Care Practice Council.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and being outdoors.

Derick Miranda, PharmD, BCPS

Derick MirandaDerick Miranda is a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist for Hematology and Oncology at North Kansas City Hospital.

He earned his doctorate degree in pharmacy from the University of Missouri and completed Truman Medical Center’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program.

Dr. Miranda’s professional interests include malignant hematology, pain management, supportive care in cancer (e.g. Antiemesis), preceptor development, evidence-based medicine and statistics. He is on the Hematology Oncology Subcommittee and the Oncology Standards of Practice Committee.

When he’s not at the hospital, Dr. Miranda enjoys animal rescue and fostering, and instrumental classical and jazz music.

Jessica Casey, PharmD, BCPS

Jessica CaseyJessica Casey is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Cardiology/Cardiothoracic Surgery at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Casey earned her doctorate degree in pharmacy from The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. She completed Nebraska Medical Center’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program and Duke University Hospital’s PGY-2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency program.

Her professional interests included acute coronary syndrome and electrophysiology. She serves on the P&T-Cardiovascular Subcommittee.

In her spare time, she enjoys attending concerts, spending time with family and friends, and reading.

Nancy Serrone, BS, PharmD, BCPS

Nancy SerroneNancy Serrone is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in General/Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Serrone earned her doctorate of pharmacy degree from The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy.

Her professional interests include orthopedics, infection control and anticoagulation. She serves on the Ortho-Spine and OR Subcommittees.

She is passionate about cooking, home décor and furniture refinishing.

Cathy Valenti, PharmD, BCPS

Cathy ValentiCathy Valenti is a Clinical Pharmacist in Medication Safety at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Valenti earned her doctorate of pharmacy degree from The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy.

Her professional interests include patient safety and medication error prevention, glycemic control of inpatients, clinical informatics and how technology can prevent medication errors. Clinically, she enjoys working in the critical care environment. She services on the Medication Management Committee and the Glycemic Control Task Force.

Outside of work, she loves traveling, spending time with family, cooking, cycling and hiking.

Kathryn Holt, PharmD, BCPS

Kathryn HoltKathryn Holt is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri - Kansas City. 

Dr. Holt earned a doctorate of pharmacy degree from Medical University of South Carolina and completed the school's PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program and PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Residency program. 

Her professional interests include transition of care, interprofessional education and primary care. 

When she’s not working, she enjoys music, travel and food.
