The Kansas City Medical Society honored Richard Hellman, MD, FACP, FACE, Hellman & Rosen Endocrine Associates, with the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award during its Annual Meeting in November.

“Dr. Hellman has been a leader and innovator in the practice of diabetes care and also in the areas of patient safety and performance measurement both locally and internationally,” said Joshua M.V. Mammen, MD, FACS, 2017 KCMS president. “He has helped advance medical knowledge through service with national and international organizations and publications.”

In 1981, Dr. Hellman founded Hellman & Rosen Endocrine Associates to design and direct the first comprehensive adult diabetes care program in Kansas City. Today, the practice employs a 21-person multidisciplinary team. Howard M. Rosen, MD, joined the practice in 1989, and Avin P. Pothuloori, MD, came on board in 2016. Emphasizing a patient-centered integrative approach, the practice links education with medical care. Its diabetes education program has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for more than 12 years.
