Bariatric Center Earns Accreditation
North Kansas City Hospital’s Bariatric Center recently earned Comprehensive Center accreditation status under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). NKCH has the only accredited bariatric center in the Northland.
To receive the three-year national accreditation, NKCH’s Bariatric Center demonstrated it meets the needs of its patients by providing a multidisciplinary, high-quality and patient-centered program, which improved patient outcomes and long-term success. The center offers extensive preoperative and postoperative care and support as part of the program. Annual reporting is required to maintain compliance. NKCH has the only accredited bariatric center in the Northland.
“This accreditation is validation that we’ve put together a comprehensive treatment program that works with patients before, during and after surgery to help ensure successful weight loss outcomes and reduce or resolve comorbidities,” says Keenan Berghoff, MD, FACS, and medical director of the bariatric program.
