Community Support

Northland Cancer Center is proud to support the Kansas City community through fundraisers and health related activities. We participate in the following community outreach:

  • Sponsored Girls' Night Out, which emphasized the importance of women taking care of their health. Physicians and staff from Northland Cancer Center educated participants about digital mammography, survivorship services, genetic testing, lymphedema treatment and overall cancer services.
  • Physicians and staff members participate with the Hospital's free speakers' bureau to present programs to community groups about the importance of early detection, treatment and other cancer-related topics.
  • Cancer care nurses facilitate free monthly support groups for the community. The breast cancer support group is for survivors or anyone diagnosed as well as family members. Another group called COOL (Cancer Opens Opportunities for Living) is a general group with speakers who can relate to the special needs and concerns of cancer patients.
  • The Hospital financially supports area events that raise funds for cancer research, including Daffodil Days through the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, etc. Teams of Hospital employees actively participate in these fundraisers by walking, running or staffing an information table to increase awareness and provide screenings.
  • Each year a free Cancer Services Fair is presented to connect cancer patients with community resources in one location.
  • Hospital cancer services have met strict criteria to receive funding through Back in the Swing that helped support the "Now What!?" Cancer Survivorship Center, as well as funds from groups like Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
