Patient Instructions
Before arriving at Northland Cardiac Center for a test or procedure, it's important to follow certain guidelines to ensure accurate results. Refer to the information below for specific
guidelines for common tests. If you have any questions about these guidelines please contact the Northland Cardiac Center at 816-691-5401.
Stress (Excerise) Echocardiogram
- No restrictions on caffeine, juice, milk or water.
- You may have a light meal.
- No nicotine after midnight prior to your appointment .
- Hold beta and calcium blocker medications for 48 hours prior to
appointment. Please check with your physician if you are unsure which
medications are affected.
- Hold morning dose of nitrate.
- Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes.
- Don't wear lotions or powders.
- Bring inhalers.
Stress (Exercise) Nuclear
- No caffeine for 12 hours prior to your appointment. This includes any
drinks labeled caffeine free or decaffeinated. In addition, no tea,
chocolate, Excedrin, Anacin, all forms of Cafergot, Darvon and Fiornal.
- No juice, water or milk for six hours prior to your appointment.
- No food after midnight for a morning test. You may have a light breakfast in the morning for an afternoon test.
- No nicotine after midnight prior to your appointment.
- Hold beta and calcium blocker medications for 48 hours prior to
appointment. Please check with your physician if you are unsure which
medications are affected.
- Hold dipyridamole medications (Persantine, Aggrenox, Pletal) or Theophylline (all forms) for 24 hours.
- Hold oral diabetic medications (Glucophage, Glyburide, Avandia) or ½
dose of insulin in the morning. Bring a ½ dose of insulin with you to
your appointment.
- Hold long-acting nitrates for 12 hours. Remove nitro patches two hours prior to appointment.
- Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes.
- Don't wear lotions or powders.
- Bring inhalers.
Adenosine Nuclear
- No caffeine for 12 hours prior to your appointment. This includes any
drinks labeled caffeine free or decaffeinated. In addition, no tea,
chocolate, Excedrin®, Anacin®, all forms of Cafergot, Darvon and
