Innovative Measure for High Quality Orthopedic Care

In 2011, North Kansas City Hospital partnered with 20 spine and orthopedic surgeons from competing practices in an innovative approach to high quality orthopedic care. The North Kansas City Hospital Ortho-Spine Co-Management, LLC, formed primarily to establish quality and efficiency goals, allows the physicians to directly impact the care their patients receive.

Quality goals aimed at securing best outcomes for patients include: 

• computerizing physician orders
• improving blood conservation measures
• decreasing infection rates
• increasing patient satisfaction
• improving turnover rates for surgery suites

According to Rhonda Self, hospital director of the orthopedic/spine services, who manages the venture, the LLC gives physicians confidence in providing services at the Hospital because they help create the experience. The many years of combined orthopedic experience they bring to the table can only lead to best outcomes for patients at North Kansas City Hospital.
