The medical specialty of palliative (pal-lee-uh-iv) care focuses on improving the quality of life for patients and their families facing a serious or chronic illness—through communication, pain and symptom management and coordination of care.
Compassionate Care for Quality of Life
At North Kansas City Hospital, our compassionate palliative care team, working together with your primary doctor, provides intensely personal care when you need it most. Palliative care is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Patients have a range of diseases and respond differently to treatment options. A key benefit of palliative care is that it looks at the patient as a whole to meet the individual needs of each person and family.

Who Benefits from Palliative Care
Palliative care relieves the discomfort, symptoms and stress of serious illness and improves quality of life for patients, their family members and caregivers. Palliative care can be provided for any illness starting from the time of diagnosis. It often accompanies active treatment for illnesses such as cancer, heart and lung diseases, kidney failure, Alzheimer's disease and others.
