Our Pulmonary Rehab Program
The pulmonary rehab program is designed to help you:
- Control and reduce the symptoms and complications of your pulmonary condition
- Improve your overall quality of life through education and exercise
- Reduce your hospital readmissions
The program consists of:
Initial Rehab Session
At the first pulmonary rehab session, our team will perform a thorough assessment, including your medical history. They’ll also discuss your quality of life and rehab goals, such as returning to work, spending more time with family and friends or simply walking up and down stairs more easily.
Undergraduate Pulmonary Rehab
This nine-week program is tailored to your individual needs. Two of the most important aspects of pulmonary rehab are education and exercise. Our pulmonary rehab team can help you learn the importance of strength and endurance training, energy conservation techniques and how medication affects the lungs. They’ll also address lifestyle issues, such as smoking cessation, nutrition and stress management.
For maximum benefit, we recommend that you attend two-hour sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Choose from four session times available throughout the day.
Undergraduate rehab classes are available Monday through Friday at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Graduate Pulmonary Rehab (Ongoing Maintenance)
Once you’ve completed the undergraduate rehab program, we encourage you to continue maintaining your lung health through the graduate rehab program. This maintenance program is self-directed with staff supervision to help maintain and continue the gains you accomplished during the undergraduate program.
Graduate rehab classes are available Monday through Friday at 6:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Most insurance carriers cover 36 hours of pulmonary rehab, but program duration is based on achievement of goals. It is the patient’s responsibility to verify their coverage. Any co-pays or deductibles are the patient’s responsibility. Typically, insurance does not cover the Graduate Rehab program. We’ll be happy to discuss programs costs and help answer insurance coverage questions.
A physician referral is required for Undergraduate Pulmonary Rehab. For more information on the pulmonary rehab program at North Kansas City Hospital and how to get started, call 816-691-1575.
Pulmonary Rehab is located on the fourth floor of North Kansas City Hospital's Health Services Pavilion in the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab area.
