Visual Rehabilitation/Driving Assessment

The occupational therapy department at North Kansas City Hospital offer vision rehabilitation and driving assessments for patients.

Typical diagnoses include:

  • CVA (stroke)
  • Dementia
  • MS (multiple sclerosis)
  • General deconditioning
  • Low vision
  • Diplopia (double vision)

Driving Assessments

Driving assessments consist of:

  • Vision testing (acuity, ROM, convergence, peripheral vision, contrast sensitivity)
  • Visual scanning and reaction time using Dynavision
  • Road sign recognition
  • Range of motion assessment
  • Mini-mental status examination, motor free visual perceptual test, and scan course through the department are administered as indicated.

Visual Rehabilitation

Visual Rehabilitation is tailored to the individual patient’s needs and can consist of:

  • Dynavision training to improve visual reaction time and scanning ability
  • Adaptive equipment education to improve function and safety
  • Taping/eyewear modifications for pt’s with diplopia
  • Visual assessments such as the Pepper Visual Skills test to assess reading rate, MVPT to assess perceptual deficits
  • Visual scanning training for patients with a visual field cut
