Hospital receives 2013 NCDR® Achievement Award

AR-RNorth Kansas City Hospital has been designated as one of only 197 hospitals nationwide to receive the ACTION Registry® Get With The Guidelines Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2013 from the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR®).

The award recognizes North Kansas City Hospital’s commitment to and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. It also signifies achievement in reaching an aggressive goal of treating these patients with standardized levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) clinical guidelines and recommendations.

To receive this award North Kansas City Hospital physicians and staff consistently followed the treatment guidelines for eight consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 90 percent or higher for specific performance measures. Following these treatment guidelines improves adherence to ACC/AHA clinical guideline recommendations, which helps ensure drug safety monitoring and the overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients.

The full implementation of acute and secondary prevention guideline-recommended therapy is a critical step in saving the lives and improving the results of heart attack patients,” says Zafir Hawa, MD, director of the STEMI program at North Kansas City Hospital. “The time is right for North Kansas City Hospital to focus on improving the quality of cardiovascular care since the number of heart attack patients eligible for treatment is expected to grow over the next decade due to increasing incidence of heart disease and a large aging population.”
