New Health Resource Available at Gladstone Community Center

North Kansas City Hospital recently opened a Wellness Corner in the Gladstone Community Center, marking the third installment of the hospital’s NKCH Wellness Corner initiative. Designed to fully immerse the hospital’s footprint into Northland neighborhoods, NKCH’s Wellness Corners offer complimentary health screenings, education and consultations in convenient locations.

At the ribbon cutting, NKCH President and CEO Peggy Schmitt (holding scissors) addressed the local chamber and city leadership, including Gladstone Mayor Bill Garnos (shown to the right of Peggy in photo).

The NKCH Wellness Corner at the Gladstone Community Center aligns with our community focus,” said Randee Gannon, NKCH’s vice president of Marketing and Community Wellness. “We’ve provided health screenings to hundreds of people over many years by hosting health fairs at the Gladstone Community Center. This location was an obvious choice for an NKCH Wellness Corner partnership.”

Initially, the Gladstone location will offer blood pressure screenings and Ask-a-Nurse services. NKCH’s Community Health Nurse Leslie Martinez, LPN, said these services make a difference in the health of a community.

Northlander Yvonne Nance’s story reaffirms this notion. After monitoring Yvonne’s vitals for six weeks at the NKCH Wellness Corner at the North Kansas City YMCA, Martinez grew concerned and urged Yvonne to visit her doctor. Soon after, Yvonne underwent open heart surgery to clear an artery that was 95% blocked.

On March 19, hospital staff, City of Gladstone leaders and members of the local chambers gathered to officially recognize the opening of the NKCH Wellness Corner at the Gladstone Community Center.

Gladstone’s NKCH Wellness Corner, located at 6901 N Holmes St., is open to the general public.
