North Kansas City Hospital Earns Platinum Level “Healthy KC” Certification

Healthy KC Platinum logoNorth Kansas City Hospital was awarded Platinum Level “Healthy KC” Certification by the Greater KC Chamber of Commerce. The award, which is the highest level achievable, recognizes NKCH’s efforts to create and maintain a healthy work environment.

The Chamber’s “Healthy KC” initiative evaluates an organization’s efforts to support its employees in five areas of health and wellness: nutrition, physical activity, tobacco cessation, work/life integration and design/build environment.

NKCH’s employee wellness program helps employees achieve wellness in a variety of areas. Free lab work and on-campus fitness classes, an employee assistance program, wellness newsletters and on-site seminars on topics ranging from managing stress to planning for retirement are just a few ways NKCH supports a healthy workforce. Employees also have access to diabetes educators and an ergonomic specialist.

In the past year, nearly 1,500 NKCH employees participated in the wellness incentive program on some level.

“NKCH embraces an all-encompassing vision of employee wellness,” said Casey Quintanilla, NKCH’s wellness coordinator. “Our culture of wellness includes all avenues that promote positive physical, mental, social and financial health behaviors. We want our employees to strive to be healthy and engaged when they come to work.”
