Matt Baker, PharmD, BCPS, DPLA

Matt BakerMatt Baker is the Pharmacy Department's Clinical Supervisor and the Pharmacy Residency Program Director. He oversees the Research learning experience at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Baker earned a doctorate of pharmacy degree from St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

His professional interests include evidence-based medicine, practice-based research and multidisciplinary process improvement. Dr. Baker serves on the Medication Management, Pharmacy & Therapeutics and Antimicrobial Stewardship committees and the Pain Stewardship and Glycemic Control subcommittees.

When he’s not at the hospital, he enjoys spending time with family and having fun outdoors.

Denny Fugate, PharmD

Denny FugateDenny Fugate is the Director of Pharmacy Services at North Kansas City Hospital. He oversees the residency program's orientation and training, and health system administration.

Dr. Fugate completed the Health System Management program at Cardinal Health and earned his doctorate degree in pharmacy from the University of Kentucky.

His professional interests are operational innovation, clinical pharmacy service integration, staff development, supply chain management and benchmarking. He serves on the Pharmacy & Therapeutics, Patient Safety, Medication Management, Standards of Practice and Institutional Review committees.

His personal interests include watching the Louisville Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals.

Michael Kallenberger, PharmD, BCPS

Michael KallenbergerMike Kallenberger is the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist for adult internal medicine and a residency program coordinator at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Kallenberger earned his doctorate degree in pharmacy from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and graduated from Truman Medical Center’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program.

His professional interests include cardiology and infectious disease.

In his personal time, he enjoys listening to music, watching professional baseball and running/working out.

Megan Musselman, PharmD, MS, BCPS, BCCCP

Megan MusselmanMegan Musselman is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Neuro/Trauma ICU and the Emergency Department, and a residency program coordinator.

Dr. Musselman earned her doctorate degree in pharmacy from the Creighton University School of Pharmacy. She completed the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the PGY-2 Emergency Medicine Specialty Residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital. She also earned a master’s degree in Clinical Toxicology from the University of Florida.

Megan’s professional interests include toxicology and neurocritical care. At North Kansas City Hospital, she serves on the ICU Subcommittee, ED Subcommittee, Medication Management Team, Sepsis Committee and Critical Care Practice Council.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and being outdoors.

Edwin L. Crawford, PharmD

Ed CrawfordEd Crawford is the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist on the Progressive Care Unit at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Crawford earned a bachelor of pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a doctorate of pharmacy degree from The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. He is on the Cardiovascular Subcommittee and the Cardiothoracic Surgery Conference Committee.

Dr. Crawford’s professional interests include cardiology, infectious disease/antibiotic management and cardiothoracic surgery. His personal interests are fly fishing, pheasant hunting and retriever training.

Hieu Mark Trung Tran, PharmD, BCPS

Hieu TranHieu Tran is the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Obstetrics Department, and Renal and Dialysis Department at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Tran earned his doctor of pharmacy degree from The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. He is a member of the Maternal Child Care Subcommittee, NICU Interdisciplinary Group and Renal Standards Committee.

His professional interests include Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS).

In his free time, he enjoys traveling internationally and saving the rain forest.

Monika Totoraitis PharmD, BCOP

Monika TotoraitisMonika Totoraitis is the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist for infectious disease/antimicrobial stewardship at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Totoraitis earned her doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and graduated from the Pharmacy Residency program at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. She is on the hospital’s Infection Control Committee and Antimicrobial Stewardship Subcommittee.

Professionally, she is one of many antimicrobial stewardship pharmacists on a mission to save antibiotics. When she’s not saving antibiotics, she enjoys traveling and cooking.

Derick Miranda, PharmD, BCPS

Derick MirandaDerick Miranda is a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist for hematology and oncology at North Kansas City Hospital.

He earned his doctorate degree in pharmacy from the University of Missouri and completed Truman Medical Center’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program.

Dr. Miranda’s professional interests include malignant hematology, pain management, supportive care in cancer (e.g. Antiemesis), preceptor development, evidence-based medicine and statistics. He is on the Hematology Oncology Subcommittee and the Oncology Standards of Practice Committee.

When he’s not at the hospital, Dr. Miranda enjoys animal rescue and fostering, and instrumental classical and jazz music.

Julie Beck, PharmD, BCPS

Julie Beck, PharmDJulie Beck is a Clinical Pharmacist at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Beck earned her doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and graduated from North Kansas City Hospital’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program.

Her professional interests include emergency medicine and psychiatry. She serves on the hospital’s Residency Advisory Committee.

When she’s not working, Dr. Beck loves being outdoors. Hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing are three of her favorite activities. Currently, she’s working on visiting as many national parks as possible. She also enjoys making pottery and taking cooking classes (mainly for the taste tests).  

Jessica Casey, PharmD, BCPS, BCCP

Jessica CaseyJessica Casey is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Cardiology/Cardiothoracic Surgery at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Casey earned her doctorate degree in pharmacy from The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. She completed Nebraska Medical Center’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program and Duke University Hospital’s PGY-2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency program.

Her professional interests include acute coronary syndrome and electrophysiology. She serves on the Pharmacy & Therapeutics -Cardiovascular Subcommittee.

In her spare time, she enjoys attending concerts, spending time with family and friends, and reading.

Cathy Valenti, PharmD, BCPS

Cathy ValentiCathy Valenti is a pharmacist specializing in medication safety at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Valenti earned her doctorate of pharmacy degree from The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy.

Her professional interests include patient safety and medication error prevention, glycemic control of inpatients, clinical informatics and how technology can prevent medication errors. Clinically, she enjoys working in the critical care environment. She services on the Medication Management Committee, Pain Stewardship Subcommittee and  Glycemic Control Subcommittee.

Outside of work, she loves traveling, spending time with family, cooking, cycling and hiking.

Kathryn Holt, PharmD, BCPS

Kathryn HoltKathryn Holt is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri - Kansas City. She also maintains an ambulatory care practice with Meritas Health North Kansas City.

Dr. Holt earned a doctorate of pharmacy degree from Medical University of South Carolina and completed the school's PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program and PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Residency program.

Her professional interests include transitions of care, interprofessional education collaboration, diabetes and primary care.

When she’s not working, she enjoys music, travel and food.

Jeremy John, PharmD, BCPS

Jeremy John, PharmDJeremy John is a Clinical Pharmacist who oversees the staffing learning experience.

Dr. John earned his doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. He completed Christian Hospital’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program.

His professional interests include psychiatry, biostatistics, infectious disease and internal medicine. 

When he’s not at the hospital, Dr. John enjoys running; soccer; reading about ancient history, art and science; visiting museums; volunteering; traveling to other countries; and spending time with family and friends.

Melissa Palmer, PharmD, BCPS, BCPP

Melissa Palmer, PharmDMelissa Palmer is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy. She also maintains a psychiatric consult service at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Palmer earned her doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy. She completed PGY-1 and PGY-2 programs in psychiatry at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center in Ohio.

Her professional interests include treating bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorders, personality disorders and substance use disorders. She serves on the Residency Advisory Committee.

In her spare time, Dr. Palmer enjoys hiking in the mountains, reading books by Stephen King and Jane Austen, and watching the Investigation Discovery channel.

Megan Bassett, PharmD, BCPS

Megan BassettMegan Bassett is a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist who focuses on general and orthopedic surgery at North Kansas City Hospital.

Dr. Bassett earned her doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She completed the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.

Her professional interests include internal medicine and pain management. At North Kansas City Hospital, she is a member of the Operating Room Subcommittee, the Pain Stewardship Subcommitte and the Ortho-Spine group.

In her free time, she enjoys running, baking and spending time with family.

Josh Eklund, PharmD, BCPS

Josh EklundJosh Eklund is the Pharmacy Coordinator for North Kansas City Hospital’s 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Dr. Eklund earned his doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

His professional interests include using technology and software to streamline and improve automated processes in medication verification and dispensing. His clinical interests include infectious disease, with a specific focus on early streamlining of antimicrobial therapy.  

Outside of work, Dr. Eklund enjoys restoring his 106-year-old house; traveling; camping, hiking and backpacking; and spending time outside.
