North Kansas City Hospital’s Cancer Rehab and Wellness Center is the first of its kind in Kansas City. We create an individualized plan of care that fits your specific needs.

Your team may include physical therapists, cancer nurses, registered dietitians and clinical social workers. Each person specializes in cancer survivorship care and strives to:

  • Relieve cancer-related side effects in a welcoming and nurturing environment
  • Engage you and your family in enhancing your physical, emotional and mental well-being

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy can be helpful in treating conditions such as:

  • Cancer rehabilitation
  • Functional dry needling
  • Riancorp low level laser therapy

They use advanced rehab technology:

  • Fully equipped, state-of-art gym
  • NeuroCom Balance Master

We have nurse navigators for:

  • Breast cancer
  • Colon cancer
  • Head and Neck cancers
  • Lung cancer

We also have a genetic liaison and a clinical trial researcher.

Dietary Consultation

Our dietitians:

  • Evaluate your nutritional needs during treatment
  • Help you make healthy food choices for strength and recovery
  • Talk with you about appetite changes and food tolerance
  • Help you manage your feeding tube, if needed

Clinical Social Work

Our social workers help with:

  • Financial issues such as insurance, disability, Medicaid and transportation concerns
  • Medication, and nutritional and medical equipment resources
  • Coping strategies for emotional stressors
  • Referrals to psychologists, educational resources and support groups
  • Advanced directives and durable power of attorney

Signs of Cancer-Related Fatigue

You may have cancer-related fatigue if you:

  • Feel tired or exhausted, even after sleeping
  • Lack the energy needed to do regular activities
  • Have trouble concentrating, thinking clearly or remembering information
  • Lack interest in normal day-to-day activities
  • Spend less time on your personal appearance
  • Spend more time in bed or sleeping

What is a Nurse Navigator?

Nurse navigators provide education and psychosocial support, and help guide you through the healthcare system. They also:

  • Act as liaisons between you and your doctor
  • Make diagnostic follow up easier and more timely
  • Attend doctor appointments, if needed
  • Answer questions
  • Provide information about local support groups
