Stroke and Neurologic Rehab

Our physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists help improve communication, physical and cognitive skills impacted by a neurological condition.

Conditions We Treat

    We treat a wide range of nervous system and cerebrovascular accident-related conditions, including, but not limited to:

    • Alzheimer’s disease
    • Brain injuries
    • Migraines
    • Multiple sclerosis
    • Parkinson’s disease
    • Stroke
    • Spinal cord injuries

    Specifically, we treat issues related to each diagnosis, which may include:

    • Balance issues
    • Bowel and bladder care
    • Chronic arm or leg pain caused by injury, surgery, stroke or heart attack (reflex sympathetic dystrophy/complex regional pain syndrome)
    • Difficulties with dressing, toileting, hygiene and self-care
    • Difficulty speaking, swallowing and/or eating
    • Difficulty with walking, transfers or bed mobility
    • Loss of range of motion because of joint issues, such as contractures
    • Joint dislocation
    • Muscle spasms or spasticity
    • Muscle weakness
    • Pain that results from changes in the brain

    Stroke Support Group

    The ARU sponsors a free stroke support group that offers a place for survivors, caregivers and loved ones to share challenges, triumphs and personal experiences. 

    The group meeting 3rd Tuesday of the month from 1:30-3 p.m. in the Acute Rehab Unit, 4th Floor.
