PediatricsAs a parent, you make important decisions for your child's health and well-being every day. Among those decisions is choosing a pediatrician.

Pediatricians are doctors who specialize in caring for children from infancy through young adulthood. This is the doctor your child will see for routine check-ups, immunizations, treatment for common illnesses and care of chronic conditions.

Services We Offer

The pediatricians at Meritas Health Pediatrics, a subsidiary of North Kansas City Hospital, provide:

  • Adolescent (teen) health and wellness
  • Baby (newborn) care
  • Behavioral healthcare, including care for autism spectrum disorders
  • Chronic health condition management
  • Developmental assessments
  • Immunizations
  • Lactation education
  • Nutrition counseling through on-site dietician services
  • Referrals for specialty care and surgery
  • School and sports physicals
  • Testing and diagnosis of growth hormone imbalances
  • Treatment for common illnesses and injuries
  • Well-child care

Convenient Care

Because children's illnesses and injuries can happen when the doctor's office is closed, Meritas Health Express walk-in clinics offer non-urgent convenient care when you need it, including evenings and weekends. Nurse practitioners provide services to children 18 months and older. Primary care doctors from Meritas Health offer medical oversight.

If your child is part of the Meritas Health network, his or her electronic medical record is automatically connected to other Meritas Health and North Kansas City Hospital physicians, resulting in seamless, coordinated care.

Convenient care may be appropriate for:

  • Colds and flu
  • Immunizations
  • Minor illnesses, including earaches, pink eye and sore throat
  • Minor injuries
  • Physicals for camp and sports
  • Rash and skin infections

Children's Surgery

Sometimes the best treatment option for your child involves surgery. These medical procedures can be frightening for children and stressful for their parents. Our compassionate pediatric care team helps offer support and guidance to children and their parents before, during and after a procedure. Our Swinging Through Surgery program also helps kids and their families learn about and prepare for their surgery.

At NKCH, the most common children's surgeries are those performed by Ear, Nose and Throat doctors, including:

  • Adenoid removal (adenoidectomy)
  • Ear tube insertion (myringotomy)
  • Tonsil removal (tonsillectomy)
