Robotic Gynecological Procedures

With the implementation of "robotic" systems, such as da Vinci® Surgical System, our surgeons are able to perform hysterectomies, laparoscopies, sacrocolpopexy, tubal reanastomosis and myomectomies in the most effective, least invasive way available today.

Until very recently, if you were diagnosed with an illness requiring surgery, your options included traditional surgery with a large open incision or a laparoscopy, which uses small incisions but is typically limited to very simple procedures.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Options

Thanks to a breakthrough surgical technology, there is a new category of minimally invasive surgery for which you may be a candidate. It is an effective, minimally invasive alternative to both open surgery and laparoscopy. Through the use of the da Vinci® Surgical System, surgeons are now able to offer a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures.

Imagine major surgery performed through the smallest of incisions. Imagine having the benefits of a definitive treatment but with the potential for significantly less pain, a shorter hospital stay, faster return to normal daily activities - as well as the potential for better clinical outcomes.

Not all surgical procedures or patients are candidates for robotic surgery. Gynecological procedures performed robotically at North Kansas City Hospital include:

  • Hysterectomy (partial or total - removes the uterus and/or cervix, ovaries and fallopian tubes contained in the female reproductive system) Watch a video of a robotic hysterectomy patients
  • Laparoscopy (identifies conditions within the abdomen including endometriosis)
  • Myomectomy (removes noncancerous fibroid tumors in the uterus)
  • Sacrocolpopexy (repair of pelvic prolapse to restore the correct anatomical position)
  • Tubal Reanastomosis (tubal ligation reversal)

In addition to performing robotic-assisted gynecological procedures, physicians treat urological disorders with minimally invasive surgery. See a list of these urological procedures.
