As many as 600,000 hysterectomies are performed annually in the United States, making it one of the most common surgeries for women. During the procedure, a woman's uterus is removed and sometimes the cervix, ovaries and fallopian tubes. Even though it's a common procedure, you may have concerns about menopause, pain after surgery, the length of recovery and sexual functions as you heal. To make the process easier and help you feel more like yourself sooner, we offer a minimally invasive alternative to traditional open surgery.

Your doctor may recommend a hysterectomy as your best treatment option for:

da Vinci® Robot

The gynecological surgeons at Meritas Health Obstetrics & Gynecology and Meritas Health Pavilion for Women, subsidiaries of North Kansas City Hospital, are specially trained in robotic surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System. A traditional hysterectomy typically requires a large incision and involves a lengthy, painful healing process with the potential for side effects.

Robotic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive approach that uses tiny (1-2 centimeter) incisions, miniature instruments and a very small, high-definition, three-dimensional camera. This system provides surgeons with a clear, magnified view inside the body and allows them to operate with a high degree of precision and control.

The benefits of robotic surgery over traditional open surgery typically include:

  • Better clinical outcomes in many cases
  • Faster return to daily activities
  • Less blood loss
  • Less scarring
  • Reduced risk of infection and complications
  • Shorter hospital stay and much faster recovery
  • Significantly less pain
