High-Risk Pregnancies

NewbornThe healthcare professionals on North Kansas City Hospital’s maternal-fetal medicine team specialize in managing high-risk pregnancies. We care for pregnant women with complex health conditions, multiple births or pregnancy-related problems.

Maternal-fetal doctors are also called perinatologists.

Perinatology Services

Our services include:

  • Amniocentesis - A prenatal test helps your doctor get information about your baby's health from a sample of your amniotic fluid
  • Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) - A prenatal test that helps your doctors better understand your baby's genetic makeup
  • Care of special medical problems - Heart or kidney disease, abnormally high blood pressure, increased risk of blood clots and other conditions
  • Care for pregnancy-related complications - Preterm labor, pre-eclampsia, and twin or triplet pregnancies
  • Comprehensive ultrasound

We also care for unborn babies who are at risk for complications such as chromosomal or congenital abnormalities, maternal disease, infections, genetic diseases and growth restriction.

After delivery, a high-risk baby may be cared for by a neonatologist in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
