North Kansas City Hospital is transforming its educational offerings for today’s on-the-go expectant and new mothers with two new resources – online childbirth classes and a mobile app.

Maternity AppMoms who are delivering at NKCH can take the online childbirth e-Learning class for free. With interactive features, including animated illustrations and videos, women can complete the class at their own pace, making it especially beneficial to those who cannot attend hospital-based prenatal classes due to bed rest, scheduling conflicts or time constraints. Parents who already have children may choose to take it as a refresher course. Moms who register for the High Tech, High Touch & a Tour class will have the opportunity to meet with an educator in-person for one meeting and tour the Mother/Baby area at NKCH.

Further meeting the tech preferences and needs of today’s moms, North Kansas City Hospital has launched the NKCH Moments pregnancy app. It features many useful tools to help expectant and new moms track weekly milestones, appointments, contractions, baby kicks and baby growth. The app also puts a packing list, feeding log and immunization records at their fingertips. Moms on the go can quickly access credible educational information on pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum, breastfeeding and newborn care.

Cathy Bonderer, Senior Director of Maternal Child Services at North Kansas City Hospital said several teams worked to customize content for the e-Learning class and app saying, “Our nurse leaders from Labor and Delivery, Neonatal Intensive Care, Mother/Baby, Childbirth Education and Lactation Specialists worked very hard to incorporate information that will be helpful to patients of our Maternal Child Health area at NKCH. We are proud of these new tools which give expectant and new parents access to high quality educational material in user-friendly formats that are accessible anytime.”

NKCH will continue to offer in-person childbirth classes for patients on evenings and weekends at the hospital, so parents can choose the option that works best for them. Parents interested in attending an in-person class or the e-Learning online childbirth class, High Tech, High Touch & a Tour can register online at NKCH.org/Class. The NKCH Moments app is available for free download from the Apple iTunes store or Google Play.
