North Kansas City Hospital’s partnership with Operation Safe, a Northland coalition administering COVID-19 vaccinations to eligible Missourians, ended on Thursday, May 6, at Cerner’s World Headquarters in North Kansas City. Over 97,000 vaccinations were administered during the clinic’s three months. Operated by NKCH, Clay County Public Health Center, Liberty Hospital and Cerner staff, the clinic’s largest one-day clinic vaccinated 5,447 individuals. Its highest hourly patient rate was 548 patients per hour. The top NKCH staff vaccinator issued over 1,746 vaccinations.
“Our teams were phenomenally efficient in the delivery of the vaccine,” said NKCH and Meritas Health President and CEO Stephen Reintjes Sr., MD. “Our efforts made a significant impact on our friends, family and neighbors, making our community a safer, healthier place.”
Operation Safe touched the lives of many Missourians, including the clinic’s oldest recipient, a 102-year-old female from Liberty, Missouri. In addition to the highly skilled staff, clinic organizers attributed much of their success to the 4,000+ volunteers who donated 50,000 hours of service. Operation Safe’s first clinic was February 4, 2021, just days after Missouri named NKCH a high-throughput vaccine provider, which enabled it to receive regular, large shipments of the vaccine. Prior to the designation, NKCH vaccinated over 4,000 employees and clinical partners on its campus, bringing the total vaccines to over 100,000.
