CT Scanner Brings Higher Resolution, Lower Radiation Scans
September 12, 2024
The Emergency Department added a second CT scanner, not only reducing the wait time for scans, but improving technology in the ED.
NKCH Philanthropy Department raised $2,013,660 from 240 generous donors to purchase the Canon Aquilion ONE™ / GENESIS Edition CT scanner, which can gather an image of the entire heart or head in a single photo. It provides improved low-contrast resolution and is capable of specialized cardiac scans, including TAVR, WATCHMAN™ and coronary scans.
“The addition of the second CT scanner in the Emergency Department has dramatically improved the wait times for this life-saving piece of equipment,” said Douglas Ham, DO, medical director, Emergency Medicine. “Patients are able to be diagnosed promptly and their treatments started quickly while decreasing their radiation exposure.”
The scanner also supports a greater weight limit of 660 pounds and has a wider gantry opening to accommodate larger patients and increase patient comfort.
“We are grateful for the donors and community support,” said radiology director Radiology Director Ashlyn Hull, RT, “for providing us with this opportunity to better meet the needs of our patient population.”
