In early September, the North Kansas City Hospital Cancer Center expanded with new physicians and greater access to a range of services for diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and patient support.

“This initiative is a major investment in our community,” commented President and CEO Stephen Reintjes Sr., MD. “Delivering exceptional cancer care closer to home for Northlanders is the right thing to do.”

The NKCH cancer care program was developed under the leadership of senior consultant Sukumar Ethirajan, MD. Dr. Ethirajan has developed several successful cancer care programs and has expertise in patient-centered cancer care and innovative care delivery.

The new physician providers are medical oncologists Benjamin Fangman, MD, and Jaswinder Singh, MD, and radiation oncologist John Park, MD., radiation oncologist. They are part of a staff of 100 medical professionals – including a dosimetrist, physicist, nurse navigators and registered dietitians – who form a comprehensive care team.

“This is a big opportunity to build a premier cancer center,” Dr. Fangman said. “We can keep everything in-house, which is better for the patient and for the physicians because the care isn’t fragmented. I’m so excited to be able to serve the people of Kansas City north of the river.”
